Affordabe Care Act event
CMH Regional Health System is partnering with Get Covered America to host an Affordable Care Act Enrollment Event on Thursday, March 6, from 5-8 p.m. at the CMH Family Health Center, 825 W. Locust St., Wilmington. Free, unbiased, certified enrollment assisters will be available to assist area residents in enrolling for quality, affordable health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Spring revival at New Hope Baptist Church

Cabin Fever Arts Festival
The 11th annual Cabin Fever Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at the Patriot Center on the Southern State Community College campus in Hillsboro. Admission is free. Presented by the Appalachian Artisans Guild, the event will feature potters, weavers, knitters, woodworkers and quilters, along with music, demonstrations, a quilt display, and food.

St. Patrick’s Day Brunch
The Highland County Historical Society will hold its St. Patrick’s Day Brunch at the museum on Sunday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations will be accepted. Women age 40 and older should receive a mammogram every year. Early detection of breast caner can significantly jmprove a woman’s chance of survival.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Susan G. Koman Foundation and St. Elizabeth Hospital, women in our area now have the opportunity to receive a mammogram at no cost. On Friday, March 21, St. Elizabeth Hospital’s mobile unit will be providing mammogram screenings at the Highland County Health Department for women age 40 and older. Women do not have to be a resident of Highland County to take advantage of this service.
Women with or without insurance coverage are eligible to receive a mammogram. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances will be billed. However, no one will be responsible for any deductible, co-pays, or out-of-pocket expenses. Appointments are required.

Rock Around the Clock fundraiser
A 1950s Rock Around the Clock Night fundraiser will be held at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, March 29. A decade trivia game, dinner/dessert, dance, prizes, and music from the 1950’s are all included in the admission price of $10. Tickets on sale now at the center. Tickets will be sold at the door if any are available. The menu will include burgers, fries, onion rings, ice cream sundaes and root beer floats. The community is welcome. Farm Bureau scholarships
Highland County Farm Bureau has funds available to provide at least one $1,000 scholarship and at least one $500 scholarship to 2014 Highland County graduating seniors who will be entering a two- or four-year college or technical school and majoring in agriculture. It will also be awarding a $500 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in a two- or four-year college or technical school with a major in agriculture. The students’ parents or applicant must be a member of Highland County Farm Bureau. Applications are available from high school guidance counselors, vo-ag instructors, and the Farm Bureau office. Greenfield Elementary Spring Carnival
The Greenfield Elementary Spring Carnival will be held April 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. The carnival will be held in the multipurpose room and will include food, games, prizes, Chinese raffle, silent auction and fun for kids of all ages. This year there will be clowns doing free face painting and balloon animals. Raffle prizes include a the new iPad Air.

Spaghetti dinner and quarter auction
St. Mary Catholic School is having a spaghetti dinner and quarter auction Tuesday, April 8. Dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and the auction at 6:30 p.m. Quarter auctions are a type of raffle where people bid on items using quarters and a pre-paid paddle. Quarters will be available for purchase that evening at the school. The cost of the dinner will be $6 for adults and $4 for children. The meal includes spaghetti, bread, salad and drink. Desserts will be available ,but not included with the meal. Paddles for the auction are $1 each. The school is located at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.

Applications available for AAUW scholarships
The American Association of University Women is accepting applications for educational scholarships for 2014. Eligibility requirements are: Current resident of the Highland County area; applicant must be 21 years of age by July 1, 2014 and must be attending an accredited college or university and give evidence of being enrolled in a degree program.
