As the month of May begins, so do our preparations for our upcoming summer reading program. When you visit us this month, you will notice signs, decorations and info about events and contests for kids, teens and adults. Join us for lots of summer fun.

Our Knit Together group continues to meet every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. New knitters are always welcome.

Sparx, our teen book group, will meet Thursday, May 8 at 5:30 p.m. The teens will be discussing the book “Taken” by Erin Bowman while enjoying pizza and pop. Also, come and learn about the summer reading activities planned specifically for our teen readers.

Our adult book group, RRR, will have its annual May outing. Lunch will be at Three Spoons in Greenfield. Check with a book club member for more details.

It’s Summer Reading Time and our theme this year is Fizz, Boom, Read! We hope all kids, teens and adults will join us Saturday, May 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for our Kick-Off Cookout. Come in and sign up for the program for your age group and have lunch on us. We’ll have hot dogs and other treats for patrons of all ages. While you’re eating your lunch, you can learn about all the programs, contests and prizes we will have for you throughout the summer. If you can’t join us May 17, you can still sign up for the reading program throughout the summer.

Children’s story times continue on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones (6-36 months) and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots (3-5 years). Themes for May include: Little Red Hen, Mother’s Day, Summer Reading Fun, Baseball and Sizzling Science. Thursday, May 29 will be our last story time until September. However, we will be having our summer reading programs for children every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in June and July.

We will be closed Monday, May 26 in honor of Memorial Day and our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Please feel free to use the outdoor book drop to return items.

We are all looking forward to seeing you throughout the summer. We hope you will be as excited as we are to have some shockingly good fun with our science-based reading theme. See you soon.
