The Highland County Democratic Women will hold their annual Basket Bazaar with a carry-in dinner and auction Monday, May 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Highland County Administration Building.
The guest speaker will be Connie Pillich, state representative for Ohio’s 28th District and a candidate for state treasurer.
Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening.
The event is free and the public is invited. Each attendee is urged to bring canned goods to be donated to Samartan Outreach.
Pillich is serving her third term as the voice of Ohio’s 28th district. She has built her career around the belief that hard work, common sense, and a commitment to getting things done are the foundation for delivering positive change.
The youngest of five children, Pillich grew up in a working class neighborhood. She graduated from public schools with honors and put herself through college with an ROTC scholarship, student loans, and part-time work.
Pillich spent eight years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, where she earned the rank of captain and was a three-time recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal.
After her time in the Air Force and receiving her MBA, Pillich worked as a public defender and later opened her own law practice where she challenged predatory lenders on behalf of vulnerable senior citizens.
As a state representative, Pillich has continued to support the military by introducing bipartisan legislation to connect veterans to their benefits and helping veterans and their families get back to work after serving their country.
She has stood up for Ohio’s families by voting against a budget that slashed funding for schools and local governments. She has fought tirelessly to restore lost funding for schools, keep police and firefighters on the job, and protect Ohio’s workers.
She currently lives in suburban Cincinnati with her husband and two children.
