The city of Hillsboro 2013 financial statement is available for review at the Hillsboro Public Library, Highland County Chamber of Commerce, city of Hillsboro Auditor’s Office, and at www.hillsboroohio.net.

Retirement reception for Ralph Vance

A retirement reception for Ralph Vance will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 27 at the Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church. Vance had played the organ at the church for 50 years.

L-C Board of Ed. meeting

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session on Monday, July 28, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education building.​

Fall Creek Friends Vacation Bible School

Fall Creek Friends invites everyone to our Vacation Bible School, which will be held from July 28-Aug. 1. Our theme for 2014 is “The Armor of God.” VBS will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the church. The church is located at 11345 Karnes Rd., Hillsboro. The ages are from 2-12 years. Come learn how to be a good soldier in God’s army.

Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District at senior citizens center

The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District will be at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 for live controlled fire demonstrations. Test your skills with a fire extinguisher by putting out a live fire and knock down traffic cones with the hose the fire department uses. See Paint Creek’s “hay wagon,” a small room built to house living room furniture that will be set fire to demonstrate the progression of a fire. Fall prevention and other safety facts will be presented. A grilled out lunch will be available. The community is welcome. Call the center for details at 393-4745.

Highland County Emmaus Gathering

The Highland County Emmaus Gathering will be on Tuesday, July 29 beginning at 7 p.m. It will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Hillsboro.

The Gathering will have a speaker, special music and prayers for our joys and concerns as well as a meditation before we share in Holy Communion.

The Walk to Emmaus is an ecumenical three-day weekend to train church leaders. Emmaus has grown into a worldwide movement. The Upper Room of the UMC in Nashville, Tenn., governs it. If you have ever been curious about the Walk to Emmaus, please come and find out what everyone has been talking about.

Everyone is invited, not just those who have attended an Emmaus weekend. Plan on coming out and sharing music, worship, food and fellowship.

Please wear your nametags and bring some food to share. But if you do not have time to prepare anything, do not stop you from attending. There is always plenty anyway!

Blood drive at Walmart

Walmart in Hillsboro has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center to host a community blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. The Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked on the store lot, 540 Harry Saner Rd.

To schedule an appointment, call Hoxworth Blood Center at 1-800-830-1091. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.

Bright Local Board of Ed. meeting

The Bright Local Board of Education will be holding its next regular meeting, 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at Whiteoak High School.

This is a change from our regularly scheduled meeting date.

Highland County Honor Guard fundraiser

A community fundraiser for the Highland County Honor Guard will be hosted by Bob Evans Restaurant in Hillsboro from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31. When you present a coupon at checkout the restaurant will donate 15 percent of the cost of the meal to the honor guard. The coupons are available at the Veterans Service Office at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro or from any of the veterans organizations. The coupons can also be requested at Bob Evans.

Rocky Fork State Park campground yard sale

Rocky Fork State Park will be hosting its fifth campground yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. No Friday or Sunday sales will be permitted. Be sure to stop at the camp store to check out our sale table.

Any registered camper may set up a yard sale on their campsite at no extra charge. All participants must clean up after the sale and remove all unsold items. Unsold items cannot be disposed of in park dumpsters. Sales are limited to the campsite area. The park is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items/merchandise.

Sale of weapons (including guns, knives, or replica weapons) and ammo is prohibited. No illegal items. No animals of any kind. No food vendors. Please keep all yard sale items family-oriented. Please no explicit material. The park staff reserves the right to refuse inappropriate items. Extra change will not be available at the camp store.

Quilters of Highland County

The quilters of Highland County would like to invite you to our annual quilt show on Friday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Hillsboro High School.

There will be door prizes, vendors, demonstrations, selling tables, a quilt raffle and beautiful quilts.

The benefits will be donated to Highland District Hospital.

For those who would like to show their quilts, we will be at the high school on July 29, 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Poker run for HC Honor Guard

A poker run to benefit the Highland County Honor Guard will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Hillsboro Moose Lodge, 972 W. Main St. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., when the bikes will depart. The entry is $10 per bike or $15 per couple. New Market School Reunion

New Market School Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at Hopewell Center, 5350 W. New Market Rd., Hillsboro. Social hour begins at 4 p.m. Dinner will follow with potluck carry-in, so bring your favorite dish and join us. Everyone is welcome.

HC Retired Teachers Association meeting

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will be welcoming new and recent retirees from education to their Aug. 4 meeting at the Highland Senior Citizens Center in Hillsboro. Our retirees will have a chance to greet and mingle with other retirees starting with a social hour at 11 a.m. Lunch is served at noon with the program and a short business meeting following. Our program for August will be Ohio Retired Teachers Association President Darlene Ruzicka and new director of The Highland County Historical Society, Vicki Knauff. Each will briefly share news and updates. Any educational retiree is welcome regardless of where and when you taught or retired. Reservations are required by July 26 and can be made by calling Kathy Levo at 393-4951.

Fundraiser for Prospect United Methodist Church

A Bob Evans Community Fundraiser will be held Friday, Aug. 15, from 7 a.m.-10 p.m., to benefit the Prospect United Methodist Church. Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of sales when the flyer is presented at Bob Evans, 609 Harry Sauner Rd., Hillsboro. The flyer must be presented at time of checkout.

HC Women’s Republican Club sponsoring trip to ‘Mary Poppins’

The Highland County Women’s Republican Club is sponsoring a trip to “Mary Poppins, The Musical” at La Comedia on Thursday, Aug. 28. Cost is $85 per person which includes show, meal and transportation. Everyone will leave Republican Headquarters at 9:15 a.m. Proceeds will help pay for a scholarship. No matter how long you breastfeed your baby, you will find La Leche League meetings supportive and informative. LLL services include a leading library, 24-hour phone help for breastfeeding problems and questions.
