The Festival of the Bells Committee, in conjunction with the Highland County Firefighters Association, has announced that the 11th annual Festival of the Bells Parade will be held July 3 at 7 p.m. in Hillsboro and will be open to anyone, not just emergency personnel.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Celebrating Hillsboro’s Heritage.”
Lineup will begin at 3:45 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Judging of emergency equipment will start at 4 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m.
Separate judging will take place for all non-fire apparatus.
The parade route will begin at the fairgrounds, turn onto Fair Street and than onto W. Main Street. Once on W. Main Street, the parade will continue through the center of town, turning left on N. High Street. The parade will end at Beech Street.
All fire and life squad entries will proceed to 204 N. East St for award presentations. The awards are sponsored by All American Fire Equipment and Pike Natural Gas Company.
During the parade, organizers ask that candy be handed out, not thrown. Also, the use of sirens and air horns are to be limited when going through town due to the festival attendees’ proximity to the parade.
Several awards will be given for best equipped and maintained engine, pumper/tanker, ladder truck, field unit, rescue, BLS unit, ALS unit, tanker/tender, best antique, farthest distance traveled, and chief’s choice.
If multiple units are in a an entry organizers ask that the entries arrive at the same time if possible.
