1977 - Pete Rose gets his 2,881st hit, a record for a switch hitter. One year later, on the same date, Rose set a National League record by hitting in his 38th consecutive game.


1990 - Actress Roseanne Barr butchers the National Anthem at a Major League Baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres. President George W. Bush calls the performance “disgraceful.”


Local:


1947 - Hillsboro High School begins to errect new bleachers at what is now the football practice field. “Fans will now be able to cheer sitting down.” The added bleachers will take seating capacity from 725 to approx. 1200.


1997 - The crush-N-Run team of Hillsboro qualified for the 1997 8-Ball National Team Championship. They joined 500 teams who traveled to Las Vagas to compete for the National title and a shot of the $500,000 purse. The team is pictured here.
