The McClain varsity boys and girls won a quad meet Tuesday evening on the Tigers track defeating Miami Trace, Lynchburg, and Whiteoak.
The meet was shortened by a couple of events due to lightning in the area which ended the activities.
The McClain boys continued their successful season by scoring 128.5 points in the meet to easily out-distance Miami Trace who finished second with 58 points. Lynchburg was third with 16.5 points followed by Whiteoak who totaled 11.
On the girls side the Lady Tigers won their first meet of the season when they scored 82 points to just edge out Miami Trace who finished second with 74. The Whiteoak ladies took third with 35 points followed by the Lady Mustangs who totaled 29.
The McClain boys led from start to finish and really dominated the meet taking first place in eleven of the thirteen events on the day while the Lady Tigers led early on then trailed at the middle before pulling out the close victory at the end.
Senior James Morris led McClain with first place finishes in both the long jump (19.8) and the 200 meters (23.74). The other first place finishers for the Tiger boys were Alex Hollar (100 meter dash 11.58), Evan Mustard (110 hurdles 17.71), Tommy Free (pole vault 10’6”), Cody Hardesty (800 meters 2:12.05), Ryan Faulconer (shot put 48’2”), Jeremiah Savage (1600 meters 5:13.4), Mikel Pritchard (high jump 5’10”), and Chandler Wagner (discus 120’1”). McClain also took first in the 4x200 relay event.
Other top finishers for the Tigers were Jake Badgley (2nd place long jump), Caleb Shepard (2nd place 1600 meters), Pritchard (2nd place 400 meters), Mustard (2nd place 300 hurdles), and Savage (2nd place 800 meters).
The Whiteoak boys got a first place finish from Derek Ison in the 400 meters with a winning time of 52.56.
On the girls side the Lady Tigers were led by senior Tara Karnes and sophomore Jhaela Coleman who were both double-winners. Karnes just missed the school record in the discus event with a heave of 112 feet and she also won the shot put competition with a winning toss of 36’5”.
Coleman was an easy winner in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.96 and she won the long jump with a leap of 15’9” while teammate Megan Mustard finished second with a personal best jump of 14’9’. Coleman also had a second place finish in the 200 meters when she was beaten in a photo finish by Kelsey Smith of Miami Trace.
The other two first place winners for McClain were Abby Storts in the high jump (4’6”) and Kenzie Figgins in the 100 hurdles (19.55). The Lady Tigers also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relay events.
Whiteoak had a first place finish on the girls half when Maggie Carr won the 300 meter hurdles in a winning time of 59.61.
McClain will be hosting its annual McClain invitational meet this Friday with eight area teams competing starting at 4:30 p.m. McClain will also host the junior high invitational on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. with approximately seven teams competing.
