Hearth and Care in Greenfield is sponsoring upcoming events in the interest of giving back to the community and providing a helping hand during the holiday season.
Beginning on Nov. 25 and running through Dec. 17, Hearth and Care will be accepting monetary donations for the Greenfield Area Christian Center’s food pantry, part of Hearth and Care’s “Lend a Helping Hand” initiative to help serve the community.
Each person, family, business or organization that donates money for the food pantry will have their name written on a hand which will be placed on the “Wall of Helping Hands” in the lobby of the nursing home facility.
Hearth and Care Admissions and Marketing Director Ashley Coe said they are accepting money, not food, donations so the pantry can purchase what they feel is most needed for the families they provide for. If any business or family would like to support and “lend a helping hand,” Coe said donations can be made at Hearth and Care, located at 238 S. Washington St. in Greenfield.
Cash or checks will be accepted, Coe said, and checks can be made out to GACC Food Pantry. Contact Coe at 937-631-2784 for additional information.
Also Nov. 25 through Dec. 17, new and gently-used coats for children and adults will be accepted at Hearth and Care.
Coe said this was just one more way those at the nursing facility are doing what they can to give back to those in need. “It’s a pay-it-forward kind of thing,” Coe said, which she said she hopes will enable the raising of extra funds to help feed and clothe children and adults in need this holiday season.
“We hope this will spark a spirit of giving throughout the community of Greenfield and surrounding areas, too,” Coe said. On Dec. 12, Hearth and Care is hosting a craft bazaar and open house from noon to 8 p.m.
Crafts, jewelry, primitive and homemade items, and more will be on hand for the bazaar. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be stopping by, with Mrs. Claus having a story time at 6:30 p.m, and there also be raffle prizes, door prizes, and refreshments.
Booth space is $10 and anyone interested can contact activities director Amanda Anderson at 937-981-3349.
On Dec. 19, the center will have its second annual ham giveaway with 30 hams given to the first 30 people.
Coe said there is a limit of one per family and in helping to make sure that happens, she said, “We ask for honesty.”
“The hams are expected to go to those families that might not be able to have a Christmas dinner, and we want to give the families the opportunity to have one,” Coe said.
The nursing facility purchased the hams from Community Market in Greenfield. Coe said they did last year, too, and she said the grocery store has been “awesome” in working together with them on the Ham Giveaway. And, Coe added, “It’s a great way to support shopping local in the community.”
