WILMINGTON, Ohio — After speaking to representatives of the expedite industry in Wilmington on Friday, Anne S. Ferro, the administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, submitted her resignation.

According to Land Line magazine, a leading professional trucking publication, on Aug. 25, she will become the president and CEO of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.

Ferro has come under fire recently for new federal regulations which limit the hours truck drivers can operate.

Lawrence McCord, the president and CEO of On Time Media LLC which produces the annual Expedite Expo, one of the largest truck shows in the country, called the timing of her resignation “interesting.”

“She gave no indication at all as she was addressing the companies in the expedite trucking industry,” he said.

Prior to submitting her resignation, in a question and answer forum held during the expo, Ferro said the Obama administration is listening to them.

“To the extent we can balance your input with all the other folks that have had a real interest in the overall operations of our highways,” she said, “we do take that into account and factor it in.”

Tom Balzer, president of the Ohio Trucking Association, hosted the forum.

“She adressed the questions as expected,” Balzer said. The Obama administration, he said, has been aggressive with putting new regulations on the industry, and called the administration “one that we’ve been having to watch.”

Expedite Expo gives truck drivers a chance to connect with others in their industry, and to learn about new products. It also gives the general public an opportunity to learn more about an industry that brings everything into their homes, said McCord.
