Business Advisory Council has large turnout

The Business Advisory Council for Highland and Adams counties met recently and enjoyed the largest attendance they have seen in years, with 35 members present.

Southern Ohio ESC Superintendent Beth Justice noted that many businesses from all over the county and all the schools from Highland County were present for the meeting.

The focus of the meeting was on workforce development in both counties. Presentations were heard from Kristy Amy on the GRIT project; Tim Dettwiller on the progress of the ACCESS internship program; and Julie Bolender, director of the Highland County Economic Development office, on the new Workforce Development Center in Greenfield.

Local business representatives noted their excitement with the many initiatives in the area of workforce development in Highland County and their desire to be a part of improving the workforce.

The next Business Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 10 and is open to all Highland County and Adams County businesses.

All Ohio school districts and Educational Service Centers are required to have a Business Advisory Council. These locally focused partnerships convene education and business leaders to engage in dialogue, build trust and identify strategies that transform the student learning experience. The ongoing, intentional collaboration can result in a more responsive education system based on regional economic drivers and needs, more relevant learning experiences for students that include work-based learning opportunities and enduring partnerships between schools and local industries.
