The Fairfield High School Lady Lions snagged a win against Whiteoak Monday night, but the Hillsboro Indians girls team wasn’t so lucky against Blanchester.

Fairfield takes 44-21 win at Whiteoak

Despite both teams scoring low in the first half, the Fairfield Lady Lions sped things up in the second half and took a 44-21 win from the Whiteoak Wildcats Monday night in Mowrystown.

Fairfield scored 8 points per quarter in the first half, with Whiteoak trailing at a 6-point gain in the first quarter and a 2-point gain in the second.

By the half, the scoreboard favored Fairfield at 16-8.

The Lady Lions kicked it up a notch in the third quarter, keeping Whiteoak’s gains at a 3-point shot from Kensley Bailey while scoring 13 for themselves thanks to some speedy fast breaks and a 3-point shot from Grace Shope with a minute left on the clock.

The third quarter ended with 16-8 on the scoreboard and Fairfield maintaining the lead.

Shope delivered again in the first 20 seconds of the final quarter with a snappy 2-point shot, and it was all downhill from there. Fairfield fought back in the last few minutes with several 2-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Lady Lions from taking the win.

The game ended with a final score of 44-21 with Fairfield on top.

Grace Shope led Fairfield with 12 points, and Alexis Jones and Chelsea Chisman both scored 6 points for Whiteoak.

“We have some girls that run the floor well and get the ball out, and when we do that, we’re successful,” said Fairfield coach Chad Hamilton. “When we got it in the half court, we tried to be a little more patient to get the shots we wanted.”

The Hillsboro High School Indians girls team suffered a loss against the Blanchester Lady Wildcats Monday night when Blanchester took the lead in the second quarter and kept it for the rest of the game.

Both teams made an 8-point gain in the first quarter, but the tie wasn not long for this world. Blanchester took off in the second quarter with a 20-point gain over Hillsboro’s 7, taking the score to 28-15 by the half with Blanchester in the lead.

The game ended with Blanchester taking the win at 53-35.

“Tonight, our shots didn’t fall for us,” said head coach JR Moberly. “We just have to keep working on little things that give us a better chance to get a win. The girls played hard; we just have to keep getting better.”
