Hillsboro hosts WCH in SCOL action

Senior Sajoun Jones threw a complete game Wednesday in a 3-1 South Central Ohio League win for the Hillsboro Indians against the Washington High School Blue Lions at Shaffer Park.

The Indians got things started early with a run in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

After allowing the Blue Lions to score a run in the top of the third inning, the Indians were able to answer immediately with a run of their own in the bottom of the third.

Despite fading light and strong winds at the diamond, Hillsboro’s Cayse Cameron, in the bottom of the fifth inning, was able to hit a home run over the left centerfield wall to provide the Indians with all the cushion they would need to win.

The game ended with a final score of 3-1.

When asked about Jones’ performance, Indians coach Matt Garman said, “He was in control of the game the whole time.”

This is evidenced by Jones’ 66 strikes out of 101 pitches for a 65-percent strike rate. He also struck out six batters and gave up only three hits.

The Indians are now 2-1 in the SCOL and 4-1 overall. Hillsboro’s next game is Thursday at home against the Western Brown Broncos.
