Fairfield downs Manchester on senior day

The Fairfield Lady Lions (14-1, 11-0 SHAC) honored their three seniors Sherry Heckathorn, Shania Setty, and Kourtnie Smith in pregame ceremonies then proceeded to shutout the Manchester Lady Greyhounds (9-11, 5-6 SHAC) before a standing room only crowd. The victory extended the Lady Lions consecutive game winning streak in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference to 30. Kaiti White was dominating on the mound again today throwing her ninth (9th) shutout of the year, a two hitter. Lyndee Spargur led the Lady Lions offense with 3 hits and 3 rbi’s.

Karly Young would single to centerfield in the top of the first inning for Manchester and advance to second base on a wild pitch, but be stranded there by White and the Lady Lion defense. Karly would be the only Manchester to advance as far as second base. White would retire the next twelve consecutive Lady Greyhound hitters.

The Fairfield Lady Lions would bat around in the bottom of the first inning to score 4 runs. In the inning, Heckathorn walked, Carli Reiber had a bunt single, White and Smith had back to back doubles, and Spargur singled.

The Lady Lions added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning with Spargur again collecting a single to drive in two runs.

Hayleigh Lowe pinch hitting for Reiber was hit by a pitch, White was safe on an error, Smith walked to load the bases, and Emily Williams drove a deep fly ball to centerfield to score Lowe on the sacrifice fly.

Manchester’s McKinlee Grooms would single with one out in the top of the fifth inning, but was quickly erased by a double play to end the game.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Heckathorn (0 for 2, 2 runs), Reiber (1 for 2, sac bunt, 1 run), White (1 for 3, double, 2 runs, 1 rbi), Smith (2 for 3, double, 3 runs, 1 rbi), Emily Williams (0 for 1, sac fly, 2 runs, 1 rbi), Lauren Arnold (1 for 2, double, 1 run, 2 rbi), Spargur (3 for 3, 3 rbi), Setty (1 for 1, 1 rbi), Megan Gragg (0 for 3).

White (14-1) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield. Kaiti’s Pitching line: 5 innings, 2 hits, no runs, no earned runs, no walks, and 3 strikeouts. Madison Jones suffered the loss for Manchester. Jones’ pitching line: 4 innings, 9 hits, 12 runs, 8 earned runs, 8 walks, and 1 strikeout.
