Both teams shot their best scores ever under their current coaches and four girls carded their career low scores, but in the end the Hillsboro girls golf team defeated McClain, 184-204, in a Frontier Athletic Conference match played Wednesday at Buckeye Hills.

“Our best score since I have been the coach at Hillsboro, 184 at Buckeye Hills versus McClain, who also played very well, shooting a 204,” Hillsboro coach Dave Hilliard said. “Larkyn Parry shot her career best, a 51, highlighted by a birdie on the sixth hole. Mallory Parsons also with her career best, albeit a short career as she is a freshman, with a 50. Mallory also birdied the sixth hole, nearly making an eagle as the ball lipped out on her approach shot from the fairway.

“Very pleased with the score. We want to shoot consistently under 200.”

Hillsboro’s Kristin Jamieson was the medalist with a one-over-par 37. Emily Loudin carded a 46, Parsons a 50, Parry a 51, Madi Stratton a 55 and Abby Myers 64.

For McClain, Brya Karnes led the way with a 44. Bri Weller shot 52, Elissa Grate and Kendall Pollard 54s, Erica Martin 57 and Cassidy Willis 70.

“”In my three years as golf coach this is our lowest score,” McClain coach Jarrod Haines said. “Very proud of Bryn Karnes and freshmen Bri Weller shooting career lows.”
