Fairfield Lady Lions golf preview

The Fairfield High School Lady Lions golf team got their season started on August 7 when they traveled to Buttermilk Falls Golf Course to take on the Eastern Lady Warriors. The Lady Lions will travel to Buckeye Hills Country Club on August 24 to face cross county rival the McClain Lady Tigers. The Fairfield ladies will wrap up their season on September 20 when they travel to Whiteoak Gold Course to take on cross county league rival the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs.

The Ladies golf team is comprised of four seniors, two juniors, four sophomores, and one freshmen. The team will be coached by Ritchie Butler who returns to the team for the third straight year.

Losing two contributors to the team from the 2016 squad has not dampened the outlook of coach Butler, “We have third year varsity player Rachel Schuler, she will play in the one spot for us in most of the matches. We also have eight other players returning to the program from last season.”

“I have a good rapport with the players. I expect certain things out of them and I know what I am getting as well. There won’t be any surprises. The girls are pretty consistent, we just need to be consistently better as the year goes on.”, said Butler.

Butler feels like the work the team has put in so far will lead to lower scores, “We have really worked on our short games. That is where strokes are saved. That has been a focus throughout the summer and early season practices.”
