Hillsboro’s girls golf team travels to Pickaway Golf Course for Southeast district D I sectional golf tournament; first qualifier for district tournament with win

For the first time in program history the Lady Indians golf team won the Division I sectional tournament for the Southeast district on Monday at the Pickaway Country Club in Circleville. Hillsboro also shot their lowest 18-hole score of the season with a team score of 383.

Hillsboro was led by junior Kristin Jamieson, as she continued her strong play on the season, with a tournament leading 73.

The Lady Indians were also the beneficiaries of strong scores from senior Emily Loudin (95), freshman Mallory Parsons (106) and senior Madison Stratton (109). Larkyn Parry, a junior, also participated in the tournament and finished with a 119.

The Logan-Hocking Lady Chieftains took home second place and a spot in the district tournament with a team score of 434.

Logan was led by junior Lexis Fickel who placed second overall in the event with an 88. The Lady Chieftains were also represented in the tournament by freshman Tessa Luicart (110), freshman Lauren Johnson (116) and sophomore Dreena Wiseman (120).

Third place belonged to Hillsboro’s Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) rivals the Lady Ironmen of Jackson who shot a 464 as a team.

Jackson saw senior Kyleigh Phillips lead the charge for the Lady Ironmen with a third place overall score of 91.

Senior Allison Moore (118), senior Marcie Mccorkle (125) and senior Zoe Ruckel (130) also contributed to the Lady Ironmen placing third in the tournament. Freshman Kylie DeFoy finihsed with a 135 for Jackson.

Sheridan High Schools Lady Generals were fourth in the tournament and finished with a team score of 467 missing a spot in the district tournament as team by three strokes.

However the Lady Generals will be represented in the district tournament by three individual athletes. Liberty Justice, a junior, shot a 104 to qualify for the district tournament. Roni Cody, a senior for the Lady Generals, qualified with a score of 117 and fellow senior Chloe Martin also qualified as she shot a 118.

Another member of the FAC, the Lady Panthers of Miami Trace, was represented by two golfers as seniors Tanner Bryant and Maddi Wallace who shot 121 and 124 respectively as both athletes fell short of qualifying for the district tournament.

The D I Southeast district girls golf tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 10, at Eagle Sticks Golf Club in Zanesville and is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.
