Lynchburg-Clay High School’s Mustangs boys soccer team traveled to Waverly on Thursday for a Southeast district final soccer match against the South Webster Jeeps.

The Mustangs lost the match 4-3 to finish their season with an overall record of 15-2-2.

Lynchburg-Clay will lose eight seniors from the 2017 squad including three in Kyle Luneke, Austin Hilt and Ethan Garrison who contributed 57 goals and 21 assists all together.

The three goals for the Mustangs in the match tie for their second lowest point total of the season and the four goals by the Jeeps were the most Lynchburg-Clay had given up in 2017.

The loss in the district final game to South Webster marks the second consecutive year the Mustangs have lost to the Jeeps with a spot in the regional tournament on the line.

Lynchburg-Clay fell 4-0 in 2016 to the Jeeps, the Mustangs put up a much stiffer fight this year as they forced the South Webster boys to earn the 4-3 victory.

The Lady Mustangs are still in the tournament and are scheduled to take on Alexander at Waverly High School on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
