Lynchburg Mustangs S.A.Y Soccer Passers win Ohio State S.A.Y. soccer tournament

The Lynchburg Mustangs S.A.Y Soccer Passers won the Ohio State S.A.Y. Championship tournament that was held in Milford, Ohio.

The Mustangs earned a spot in the tournament courtesy of a run to the championship of the Five Points S.A.Y. League.

The team finished the season with a 19-1 overall record that included a 9-1 regular season record and a perfect 10-0 mark in their post season tournaments.

The team is made up of six, seven and eight year olds from the Lynchburg area and plays in the Five Points S.A.Y Soccer League.

The members are the team are: Trenton Rhoads, Peyton Hertenstein, Rex Eaglin, Tanner Roberts, Jayden Pettit, Brayden Warne, Noah Eldridge, Sam Turner, Cylus Arrington and Alexander VanFleet.

The Mustangs coached by head coach Jeff Turner and hit two assistant coaches Ryan VanFleet and Matt Roberts.

The Ohio S.A.Y. State soccer tournament was held in Milford, Ohio on November 11-12 and 18-19 at The Finley Ray Park.

Head coach Turner was pleased with the way the young athletes played the game for him this year.

“We really wanted the kids to hustle and have fun. That is what we focused on and the kids really took to that approach and they hustled and had fun. They stepped up and did what we asked then to do, that is what carried them through the tournament,” said Turner.

The team won their final game on Sunday November 19 1-0 to claim the state championship. The team scored a total of 16 goals at the state tournament while holding their opponents to seven goals total.
