The Fairfield Lions cross country team made their way to National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday and participated in the OHSAA State cross country meet where they finished in sixth place in the Division III team standings.
Lady Lion Ciara Colwell took part in the girls D III race as an individual and finished 34th.
Brandston Duffie led the Lions team with a 23rd place finish and he improved his position seven spots from 30th to 23rd over the last third of the race as he finished in a time of 17:06.7.
Cohen Frost and Austin Setty each finished in the top 50 in 40th and 49th with times of 17:25.7 and 17:32.1 respectively.
Senior and recent Kentucky Christian University commit Bennett Hodson ran his usual strong and steady race in a time of 17:50.2 for 75th place.
Gavin Campbell rounded out the top five finishers for the Lions with a time of 18:09.5 that slotted him at 106th out of 181 runners.
Ethan Davis and Blake Haines were the final two competitors to cross the finish line for Fairfield with times of 18:17.1 and 18:37.4 respectively.
The Lions were considered one of the top three teams in D III by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches poll.
Fairfield opened the season ranked sixth by the OATCCC and steadily moved up the list before earning a tie for the number one spot in the poll with Mt. Gilead in the week seven poll and a tie with Fort Loramie in the week eight poll.
