Leesburg wins Babe Ruth Tourney

Leesburg Babe Ruth and Wendy’s lit up the scoreboard on Monday as they combined for 17 runs. In the end, Leesburg Babe Ruth won the offensive battle 9-8 in six innings.

The teams combined for 13 hits, including seven extra base hits.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the fourth and had had seven lead changes.

Leesburg Babe Ruth, however, took the lead in the fourth inning with a hit by pitch that scored Nike Hurless and held on to it for the 9-8 victory.

Leesburg Babe Ruth did not relinquish the lead as Wendy’s was unable to weather a four-run fifth inning deficit.

Wendy’s scored three runs in the sixth on an error and a groundout by Baron. But still saw themselves down by one.

Hunter Dixon recorded the win for Leesburg Babe Ruth even though he allowed five runs over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five, walked two and surrendered three hits.

Leesburg Babe Ruth’s Tucker Ayres, Hurless and Ethan Cornwell combined for six hits and three RBIs.

Austin was charged with the loss. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
