The Fairfield Lions boys soccer team suffered a tough loss on Monday night to Blanchester High School with a final tally of 7-1.

All Blanchester goals came in the first half, but the Lions were able to shut down the Wildcats’ offense in the second half. Unfortunately they weren’t able to produce any of their own either.

The Lions lone goal came in the first period off the foot of Trey Current.

“Blanchester did a really nice job of passing the ball and staying patient against us tonight,” said Lions coach Brian Ortlieb after the game. “We did just the opposite of that in the first half. We weren’t patient at all on the defensive end and on the offensive end, we just tried to stuff the ball down the middle. Obviously, that didn’t work too well. In the second half, we came out and played a little bit better and actually made a few passes here and there.

“Not pleased overall but more pleased with the second half than the first half.”

The Lions drop to 1-5-1 overall and will host Washington on Thursday and then turn around and host West Union the following day.
