LC undefeated SHAC champs

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs hosted the Fayetteville Lady Rockets on senior night on Wednesday looking to finish off a perfect league season. They did so in dramatic fashion, throttling the Lady Rockets with a final score of 10-0.

Not only did they win the Southern Hills Athletic Conference with the victory, but for the seniors, completed an impressive four year run in the SHAC. At the end of the night, the Lady Mustangs had completed their third consecutive undefeated season but also their fourth season without a loss. The only game for the girls that wasn’t a win, was a game against Eastern their freshman year in which they finished with a tie. The final league record for the Lady Mustang seniors is an outstanding 27-0-1. They also finish with an equally impressive overall record of 63-10-4.

The Lynchburg girls started the night off quickly with their game against Fayetteville with a goal from Hannah Binkley just two minutes into play.That goal was followed up just a minute later with a goal from Angela McLaughlin to make it 2-0.

With 30 minutes to go in the first period, Hannah Binkley added another goal to her tally to make it 3-0. Four minutes later, Alexa Cochran took a corner kick and when she kicked it, it curved towards the goal, out of reach of the Lady Rocket goalie and made its way into the goal to give her team the 4-0 lead.

Peyton Scott, who had a hat-trick in the game, rounded out the first half scoring with 8:15 to go, taking the game into halftime with Lynchburg up 5-0.

The Lady Mustangs equalled their first half scoring in the second period with goals from Savannah Cochran (36:32), Peyton Scott (18:00 and 16:37) another at 7:40 and finished off with a goal from Madison Wills with 1:20 to play.

The Lady Mustangs will play their opening tournament game on Wednesday against a team yet to be determined and with the number one seed, they will be hosting the game at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
