Mustangs beat up on RHS

The score may have been a little closer than the last time the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs baseball team matched up with Ripley, but the Lynchburg team was still able to come away with a 12-2 run-rule victory over the Blue Jays in five innings.

The Mustangs got off to an early lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning after pitcher Damin Pierson held the Ripley offense back in the first inning. They added another run in the bottom of the second and then their offense stalled in the third. The Blue Jays used the pause in the offense from Lynchburg to tie the game, scoring two runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Mustangs got their offense going again and in a big way, blasting the Blue Jays for ten runs in the inning and taking a 12-2 lead. With the run support and big lead, Pierson was able to go out to the mound in the top of the fifth and keep the Ripley bats quiet and the Lynchburg baseball team took home the 12-2 win.

Damin Pierson also led his team at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort including a double; Devin Pierson, Morgan Ryan, Kendall Vilvens, Forrest Elam, and Alex Elam all collected two hits in the game and Andrew Reuss tallied one.

“Tonight, I think, was a good bounce back game from our game last night with Peebles where it got away from us and we lost 9-8,” said Head Coach Garyn Waits after the win. “I think playing six games in seven days may be starting to take its toll, but we’re still going to have to plug away because we have Manchester tomorrow and Friday we have Whiteoak. The week’s not up yet.”
