Hillsboro FFA cornhole tournament

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter will host their annual cornhole tournament at the Festival of the Bells on July 2. Registration will start at 9 a.m. followed by the tournament at 10 a.m. The cost to register will be $20 per team. The tournament will be double elimination. 2nd Annual Twilight Glow Run

The Fairfield High School cross country team will be holding its 2nd Annual Twilight Glow Run on Friday, July 29 with registration starting at 8 p.m. Last year’s race brought out over 250 participants and they are expecting more this year. New to the race this year will be fully automated chip timing technology.

The race will take place at the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance Station in Leesburg and after registration the first event will be a kiddie dash at 8:30. Registration for that will be $5 if you pre-register and includes a glow necklace.

The one mile race will start at 9pm and is $20 for pre-registration and includes and glow necklace and t-shirt. The 5k race will be held at 10pm and is also $20 for pre-registration and includes the necklace and t-shirt.

There is a $25 registration fee after July 22 and you can go to registrationspot.com to register before then.

There will be four different prize brackets for the one miles race and those are: 7 and under, 8-11, 12-15, and 16 and up. For the 5k race there are seven different prize brackets. 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and up. Prizes will be awarded to the top three males and females overall, plus the top three in each age bracket.

Festival of Bells 5K

The streets of Hillsboro will once again be the site of the annual Festival of the Bells 5K Run/Walk. This has been a popular event with approximately 200 participants in 2015. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. on the Courthouse Square. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. Participants may pre-register at www.getmeregistered.com by June 20, 2016 in order to be guaranteed a race T-shirt. Runners may also register on the day of the race. Registration fee is $25 per runner.

McClain Tiger Boosters Golf Scramble

The McClain Tiger Boosters will be hosting a golf scramble followed by a dinner and dance to benefit the McClain Athletic Department on Saturday, June 25 at Buckeye Hills Country Club. Registration for the golf outing will begin at 11:30AM with a shot gun start at 1:00PM. First and second place teams will receive prizes. There will be a chance to win a car for a hole in one, poker hands on par three holes, along with longest drive contest and closest to the pin. A dinner will follow the golf outing. There will be silent auctions, live auctions as well as raffles. Following the dinner there will be a dance with the band “Six to Noon” performing.

Corporate Sponsor- $400 includes golf for a four person team, four dinner tickets and recognition on corporate sponsor banner.

Hole Sponsor- Recognition on hole sponsor banner.

Tickets for the dinner/dance can be purchased at McClain High School, Jett’s Pro Embroidery, Buckeye Hills, Community Savings Bank or Southern Hills Community Bank.

Festival free throw competition

During the 2016 Festival of the Bells, Highland County Free Throw Champions will be crowned for all age groups. The competition will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. on Governor Trimble and will include both males and females. There will be an entry fee of $5 per shooter. Divisions of competition will be as follows: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 & up. The final winners for each group will be announced on the stage prior to the evening’s concert.
