Care-A-Van at Senior Citizen Center, Kmart

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and the Highland District Hospital, will visit the Highland County Senior Citizen Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon and the Kmart parking lot from 1-4 p.m., both in Hillsboro, on Tuesday, June 16.

Fairfield Local Board of Ed. meeting changed

The Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education has changed the date and time of their regular monthly to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 in the District Office Conference Room. The meeting will be proceeded by a board work session at 2 p.m. to meet with architects to further discuss the new building plans. The public is invited to attend. Summer youth employment program

The Highland County Department of Job and Family Services has received funding from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to operate a summer youth employment program for eligible youth 16-24. The program began May 1, 2015 and will run through Oct. 31, 2015. Youth interested in a summer employment opportunity may pick up an application at the Ohio Means Jobs – Highland County center located, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro. Eligibility guidelines apply.

Health needs assessment

The Highland County Health Coalition, including the Highland County Health Department, Highland District Hospital and Adena Greenfield Medical Center, is conducting a health needs assessment for our county. Take a few minutes to complete the online survey that will help identify the health care needs of our community. All information collected is for research purposes. The survey is anonymous, and no questions will identify you personally. Go to go.osu.edu/mycommunityhealth to complete the survey, which is free and easy to take. The information gathered will be collected and analyzed by The Ohio State University Extension Agency, and may help guide and fund future health services for people living in Highland County.

Free PSA screenings

During the month of June the Highland County Health Department will offer free PSA screenings to men over the age of 50. Testing can be done at the Care-A-Van or at the health department by appointment. For more information, contact the health department at 937-393-1941.

Farm Feast

A Farm Feast and Tractor and Antique Machinery Show will be held Saturday, June 20 at Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown. Hosted by the Mowrystown FFA Alumni and the Mowrystown FFA Chapter, all funds raised will assist with FFA and alumni activities. Lunch and homemade ice cream will be available. The tractor show begins at noon and there’s no fee to enter. The Farm Feast begins at 4 p.m. and consists of pulled pork, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, dessert and a drink. An auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Leftover pulled pork, ice cream and other items will be auctioned off at the end of the feast. Antique Tractor Show

The 6th annual Antique Tractor Show, sponsored by the Bainbridge Historical Society and Paint Valley Antique Machinery Club, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20 on East Third Street in Bainbridge. In addition to antique tractors and machinery, there will be a fish fry, music and tours of the Dr. John Harris Dental Museum and Bainbridge Historical Society. Hillsboro class of 1980 reunion

The Hillsboro class of 1980 will have a reunion on June 21 starting at 4 p.m. at Alley 21. For more information contact Kathy (Wilson) Bruynis at [email protected]. She needs to give an head count to Alley 21 by June 19.

Vacation Bible School

The Northview Baptist Church will be holding a Vacation Bible School on June 22 through 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is for ages 5 -12.

Family Fun & Movie Night

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present its first Family Fun & Movie Night of 2015 on Friday, June 26. This free event will feature the movie “Paddington.” Activities will begin at 7 p.m. on the grounds of LUMC, located at 117 Church Street in Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Movie begins at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, and cookies. There will also be a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro.

Other upcoming free movie nights at LUMC are scheduled for:

• Friday, July 17, -“Big Hero 6.” Activities begin at 8 pm, and the movie starts at sunset.

• Friday, Aug. 7 – “The Muppets Most Wanted.” Activities begin at 8 p.m., and the movie starts at sunset.

A rain date is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21. Activities will begin at 8 p.m., and the movie will start at sunset.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, June 27 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise begin at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served, eat-in only, from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be smoked sausages on a bun, baked beans, potato salad, assorted desserts and drinks.

Art Show and Sale

The Brush and Palette Art Guild will hold its 58th annual Art Show and Sale on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, from 1-6 p.m. at the Southern State Community College Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. On display and judged will be work from professional and non-professional artists. There will be a silent auction, items for sale and light refreshments served. Admission is free. Quilters of Highland County annual show

The Quilters of Highland County will hold their annual show July 1 and August 31 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. Guests are invited to display their quilts. In addition to the quilt displays there will be door prizes, a silent auction, vendors and special booths. A quilt will be raffled off.
