Burglary charge filed after woman allegedly damaged home

A Jeffersonville woman is facing a charge of burglary following an alleged incident earlier this month.

According to an affidavit filed with Hillsboro Municipal Court, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office responded to “a possible burglary in progress” on July 9. When the deputy arrived at the Josie Avenue residence, he reportedly located a broken kitchen window.

According to the affidavit, “it appeared someone had entered the residence.” The deputy also reported that while no one was found inside, “items in the living room (were) damaged, broken, and knocked over.”

The affidavit added that the damaged property was reportedly valued at $1,775.

The alleged victim reportedly said that Wanda S. Haithcock, 32, had come into the residence earlier that day and that an argument had occurred. The affidavit identified Haithcock as a “former girlfriend.”

After the alleged victim reportedly told Haithcock to leave, she “advised that she had to go to work, so (the alleged victim) allowed (Haithcock) to wait on the front porch” for a ride, according to the affidavit.

Haithcock allegedly “attempted to contact the (alleged victim) several times via telephone,” as stated in the affidavit.

At around 3 p.m., Hiathcock called again and “stated that she had broken into (the alleged victim’s) house and (broken) her TV and other things,” according to the affidavit.

Haithcock also said, “Call the cops on me if you want,” as stated in the affidavit.

She appeared on a charge of third-degree felony burglary in the municipal court on Monday.

Records show that a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30. Her bond is set at $5,000.

While her case is pending, Haithcock is to have no contact with the alleged victim. She must also observe a curfew and report to the probation department. She is prohibited from driving.
