Welcome to Greenfield Elementary, the “World’s Greatest School!”
We are excited to begin the 2015-16 school year. Greenfield Elementary will welcome all students in grades 1-4 on Wednesday, Aug. 19 for a full day of classes. Walkers are asked to report to school after 8:50 a.m. and before the start of school at 9 a.m. Students arriving at the proper time will report directly to their classrooms. No students shall be allowed on either playground before school, as no supervision will be provided.
Any student who arrives before 8:50 a.m. must report to the McClain Cafetorium. Free breakfast will be held in the cafetorium from 8:40-9 a.m. for any student who wishes to participate. Students eating breakfast need to arrive at school and go promptly to the McClain Cafetorium in order to finish by 9 a.m. Bus students will arrive between 8:40-8:55 a.m. Students walking to school or being dropped off are not expected to arrive before 8:50 a.m., unless participating in our breakfast program.
Our cafeteria will again offer breakfast and a hot lunch program. Breakfast will be offered to all students for free this fall. Lunches are $2.10 for students K-4. We also offer a free or reduced lunch program for those who qualify. Milk prices remain at $.40 per carton.
Kindergarten breakthrough and orientation week will be held Aug. 19-24 with the first full day on Wednesday, Aug. 25. Preschool breakthrough and orientation will be held the last week of August with the first day of classes on Sept. 14. Parents of preschoolers can look forward to a letter from our preschool teachers with all necessary details of all opening activities.
Dismissal procedures are tiered to help keep congestion at a minimum. All preschool-second grade children are dismissed from the front doors, while walkers in the third and fourth grades are dismissed from the north door next to our primary playground. Students are dismissed as follows: preschool, 3:30 p.m.; kindergarten, 3:35 p.m.; grades one and two, 3:40 p.m.; and grades three and four, 3:45 p.m. Students are to leave the school grounds immediately upon dismissal. There are no teachers on playground duty before or after school. Both playgrounds are closed to the public until 4:10 p.m. each evening. Bus students will report to the library and will board the busses when they arrive a short time after 4 p.m.
Special care needs to be taken when students are dismissed from school. The area around the school becomes very congested with traffic. Children do not always remember the safety rules. Please drive and walk cautiously to keep our children safe.
If your child needs to be absent from school for any reason, please contact the school office at your earliest possible convenience.

Class lists and supply lists are posted on the front doors of the General Duncan McArthur building. Careful consideration was made in classroom assignments to ensure each child has a productive and successful school year. At this time there will be no changes made to our class lists.

OPEN HOUSE
We will welcome parents and community members to our open house on Monday, Aug. 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. Please visit classrooms, meet the staff, and enjoy the comradary of the Greenfield Elementary School community.
PRESCHOOL
Greenfield Elementary will again offer a preschool program coordinated by Heather Dratwa, director of special programs. Call the special programs office (981-4856) if you have a child ages 3-5 and are interested in learning more about this exciting program for our youngest learners.
VOLUNTEERS
Parents and community members are always welcome at Greenfield Elementary. Volunteers may work with individual students, help prepare materials for instruction, share special talents and skills, or perform other duties to enhance our school program. Children who have parents or interested adults involved in school usually become successful students. Please contact the school office if you are interested in participating as a volunteer. Greenfield Elementary requires background checks for volunteers. Please call our office for details.
Parents are the most important people in a child’s education. It is vital to have positive parent participation for children to receive the maximum learning experience in school. The more involved parents and community members are in education, the greater the success for students.
BASC CARE
We once again will provide before and after school care beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. For information on this wonderful program, contact our school office or Ms. Beth Penwell at extension 31060.
