Senior Luis Rivas (Greenfield / Edward Lee McClain) finished up his men’s soccer career at Otterbein University with one final accolade over the weekend, earning third team All-Ohio honors from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

The award comes after Rivas, a dynamic forward, earned his second-straight All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) at the conclusion of this past season. He landed on the first team after earning honorable mention honors as a junior during the 2014-15 academic year.

“Luis was such a forceful, brave and dynamic player for us,” head coach Gerry D’Arcy said at the conclusion of the season. “He is an old-fashioned forward who proved very strong, but also has good speed. He’s a leader and brings very positive energy to the team. On a number of occasions this season, he put the team on his back and stepped up as a leader when the opportunity presented itself.”

Rivas was the true mark of a senior leader for the Cards this past season season, leading the team and ranking fourth in the entire OAC in points (26, and third in goals (12). He opened the season on fire with a staggering 10 goals through the first 12 matches, which included a hat-trick in a 3-1 over Ohio Christian. Rivas posted four game-winning goals throughout the schedule.

Otterbein finished 8-7-3 overall as a team, going 3-4-2 within conference play before unfortunately missing the league’s postseason tournament by just one point.
