Hillsboro woman gets another treatment chance

A Hillsboro woman got another chance to do things right after admitting to violating her community control by leaving a treatment facility.

In November on two different cases Katherine J. Page, 19, was sentenced to community control and treatment. She pled guilty to fifth-degree felony heroin possession and third-degree felony grand theft in October.

According to Adult Parole Authority Officer Brandon Barr, Page left a Scioto County treatment facility “against the advice” of staff there.

On Tuesday, Page admitted to leaving the facility, and told Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss that at the time she “wasn’t thinking straight.”

“I just let my stupidity override me,” she said.

And then when she turned herself in to the Scioto County Probation Department on Monday and was informed she would be going to jail, Page said she tried to run.

Page told the judge that she regretted leaving the treatment facility, calling it the “biggest mistake” of her life.

But Coss said that was but one “big mistake” in a series of mistakes that goes all the way back to committing the felony offenses that landed her in the court in the first place.

Coss said Page was “lucky” that the probation officer that had to subdue her on Monday wasn’t injured. He said that according to probation’s report Page “did not go willingly.”

Despite Page’s conduct, Coss said the court would give her “one last chance.”

Her community control was continued and she was ordered to complete the STAR residential treatment program. She is to remain in jail until going to the facility.

Also this week, a jury found a New Vienna man guilty of second-degree felony illegal manufacture of drugs. Ryan D. Burton, 33, was sentenced to five years in prison, according to court records.

In another hearing, Deanna Eloise Boggs, 39, Hillsboro, pled guilty to fifth-degree felony theft and fourth-degree felony misuse of credit cards. She was granted entry into the prosecutor’s diversion program. If Boggs successfully completes the program, the felony charges will be dismissed.
