The Hillsboro Youth Wrestling Program competed in the COBYWA youth wrestling league, alongside 24 other teams during the month of January. There were five tournaments altogether, with the league championships happening on January 31st in Washington Court House. Place winners from the event were: Josh Cunningham 1st, Josh Decker 1st, Corbin Winkle 1st, Isiah Nussbaum 2nd, Wyatt Brackman 3rd, Gary Reno 3rd and Robbie Schneider 4th. Other participants in the Championship were: Jacob Decker, Carter Boyd, Jayden Shepherd, Nolan Stroud, Clifford Phillips, Keaton Beucler, Hayden Zurface and Walker Pence. The format of the tournament was an 8-man double elimination bracket, placing the top 4 of each weight class.
The Hillsboro Youth Program ran from November to January, and had a turnout of 40 wrestlers in total for the year. Of those 40, participants were broken into two groups. With the group of 1st grade and under, spending time honing wrestling specific motor skills, without the pressure of competing in tournaments. This allows them to practice skills that will be valuable to them in years to come, in a controlled manner. The other group consisted of wrestlers between 2nd and 6th grade, and focused on continuing those skills taught at the younger ages, while adding a broader range of wrestling technique.
