‘Last chance’ for man on 4th felony

A man recently convicted by guilty plea on his fourth adult felony offense has been given one more chance.

Stanley Lamb, 33, Wilmington, was sentenced in Highland County Common Pleas Court this week to community control and treatment for fifth-degree felony heroin possession.

Included in judge Rocky Coss’ hearing notes filed with the case are the boldly written words “last chance.”

According to prosecutor Anneka Collins, the defendant has three prior felony convictions and the state this week “argued strenuously” for a prison term.

According to defense attorney Richard Furnish, Lamb entered treatment earlier this year. It is his last shot, but Lamb got the chance from the court to continue in his treatment. Any infraction of the orders of the court could land Lamb in prison for up to 12 months for the fifth-degree felony.

In other proceedings, two Greenfield men recently convicted by guilty plea and sentenced were sentenced again this week in separate cases.

Jacob Eddie Cowman, 22, pled guilty in February to third-degree felony grand theft and this week was sentenced to community control and treatment. Also in February, Cowman was sentenced to the same on heroin trafficking charges.

In a hearing last month Collins said the theft offense was committed before the drug offense and was not a violation of Cowman’s community control.

Similarly, William Throckmorton, 27, this week pled guilty to fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and was sentenced to community control and treatment.

As with Cowman, Throckmorton in February had been sentenced on fourth-degree felony aggravated trafficking in drugs to community control and treatment, but the offense was not a violation of his probation due to when the offense was committed.

Starr M. Hall, 38, Bainbridge, was sentenced to further community control and ordered to complete a residential treatment program and aftercare. She admitted to probation violations last month. She was initially sentenced to community control for aggravated possession of methamphetamine a year ago.

Adam Willey, 19, Hillsboro, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to successfully complete a treatment program. He pled guilty to third-degree felony gross sexual imposition in December. The conviction requires that he register as a Tier II sex offender. He will have to register every six months for 25 years.
