Pancake Extravaganza

More than 130 Easter baskets will be given away and there will be all kinds of other attractions when the annual Pancake Extravaganza with the Easter Bunny and Friends is held March 19 at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center.

“If you like Big Bird, Elmo, Snow White, Minions and the Easter Bunny, you’re gonna love the Pancake Extravaganza,” said Michell Frost, executive director of the senior center. “Kids will have the opportunity to meet lots of characters and do the Chicken Dance and Bunny Hop with them to their heart’s content.”

The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon at the center located at 185 Muntz St. in Hillsboro. Admission is $3 for those 23 months old and younger and $5 for everyone else.

In addition to meeting and dancing with the characters, there will be a pancake breakfast, an indoor Easter egg hunt in a decorated area, egg coloring, games, raffles, a photo taken with the Easter Bunny, and raffles for adults.

The breakfast will include regular or chocolate chip pancakes with fresh strawberry and apple-cinnamon toppings or syrup, plus sausage and drinks.

The 130 candy-filled Easter egg baskets were donated anonymously and will be distributed randomly throughout the event. There is another egg basket with a mini stuffed Elmo inside that will be given away separately.

The photos will be taken at the event, then parents will be contacted when they can come and pick them up.

Kids should bring a bag for the eggs they collect.

Tickets are on sale now at the center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or can be purchased at the door.

“We encourage the community to come out and have fun with us,” Frost said. “All proceeds benefit the senior center, a non-profit organization that does not receive government funding of any kind. Your support is greatly appreciated.”

NCB is the main event sponsor. Co-sponsors are the Harsha Monument Company, Edgington Funeral Home, Sue Boone Realty, Kindred Soulz Bike Club, Hillsboro Family Dentistry, Lewis Financial Group, Shane Wilkin, McDonald’s, Walgreens, US Foods and Valley Foods.

Because of the sponsors’ help, most all proceeds go to the center.

This Saturday, March 12, the center will host Ham Bingo from 1-4 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase from noon to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public, but you must be 18 or older to play bingo. Cards are 25 cents per card, per game. The prizes are hams and pies donated by the Laurels of Hillsboro and Heartland of Hillsboro, respectively.
