WCH man in custody after pursuit

A Washington Court House man is in custody following a reported high-speed pursuit on Wednesday that began in Greenfield and ended in Washington C.H.

According to Sgt. Jeremiah Oyer of the Greenfield Police Department, the GPD received a report early Wednesday afternoon of a reckless driver heading toward the village from SR 41 north. A GPD officer located the vehicle after it entered the village and observed the driver of the vehicle “running stop signs,” he said. The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading a pursuit that exceeded 100 miles per hour on SR 41 toward Washington C.H.

Oyer said a Fayette County deputy deployed stop sticks in the area of Rowe Ging Road along SR 41, which disabled the fleeing vehicle.

“Once the vehicle hit the strips, he immediately slowed down and shortly after pulled off to the side of the road,” said Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. “The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.”

Mark Argueta, 39, was identified as the driver and the only occupant of the vehicle. Oyer said Argueta will be charged with third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, but also faces other charges.

Oyer said there were no accidents or injuries reported from the pursuit.

Officers from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Washington C.H. Police Department also responded.

The incident remains under investigation.
