Jaws of Life used to rescue trapped motorists

The Jaws of Life was needed to remove occupants from a vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash outside Greenfield on Thursday.

According to Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District public information officer Branden Jackman, Paint Creek’s Greenfield station was alerted to the possibility of a motor vehicle crash Thursday at 4:23 p.m.

Units responded to the area of SR 41 at Ghormley Road in Fayette County and found two vehicles with significant damage to both vehicles. The occupants of one of the vehicles had to be removed with the help of the Jaws of Life, said Jackman. The extrication took approximately 15 minutes to free the occupants of the vehicle.

Crews on scene felt the injuries were substantial enough that aeromedical transport was requested. Care Flight out of Miami Valley Hospital responded and landed at the helipad at Paint Creek’s Greenfield station. The on-scene squad crews transported two adult victims back to Greenfield and they were placed on the helicopter for transport to Miami Valley Hospital.

Fayette County EMS was also on scene and transported two adults and one pediatric victim back to Fayette County Hospital for evaluation. Nothing else is known at this time about their conditions.

Paint Creek was assisted on scene by Fayette County EMS and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

SR 41 was shut down for a time and all Paint Creek EMS and fire units were clear of the scene by 5:30 p.m., said Jackman.

Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District was created in 2009. It currently has three stations covering some 330 square miles in Highland, Ross, and Fayette counties. Paint Creek is a 24/7, 365 day a year staffed department.
