Hillsboro Rotarians on Tuesday held their annual organizational meeting, with Lee Koogler taking over as president from Rick Williams. The club also honored Rocky Coss with the “Service Above Self” award, Rotary’s highest honor “which recognizes up to 150 Rotarians each year who demonstrate their commitment to helping others by volunteering their time and talents,” according to Rotary International. Sharon Cornette and Gary Abernathy were honored as Paul Harris Fellows “in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.” John Knechtly was honored with his second Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Perfect attendance pins were also awarded to a number of Rotarians. In handing over the gavel, Williams expressed appreciation for his term as president and encouraged Rotarians to remember the club is “here for the community.” Koogler pledged to do his best to lead Rotary and work closely with members through the coming year.
