A Hillsboro woman was arrested Tuesday after she was allegedly discovered in the middle of the night in a 2-year-old’s bedroom.

The Hillsboro Police Department said it received a call at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday of a burglary in progress at 125 N. East St. in Hillsboro.

Amy Toner advised the police department that she and her husband had been awakened and discovered an unknown female in their 2-year-old son’s bedroom. She reported that the female fled the premises with Mr. Toner giving chase, the police department reported.

The suspect, later identified as Fiona McGinty, 46, of Hillsboro, was located by police officers on the Flagway parking lot on East Main Street, attempting to hide behind bags of mulch, according to the police department.

McGinty had items on her person which she admitted to taking from four vehicles and the Toner residence, the police department said.

McGinty was arrested and charged with second-degree felony burglary, fifth-degree felony theft, and three first-degree misdemeanor theft counts.

McGinty appeared Wednesday in Hillsboro Municipal Court. Her bond was set at $10,000. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on July 7.
