A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a theft and criminal damaging incident that took place Wednesday at a Highland County auction.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said the morning auction took place on Beltz Road in Clay Township. The sheriff said that while the auction was under way, an unknown person or persons broke into to five or six vehicles and removed several items.

Barrera said he did not want to divulge exactly what was stolen, but he said they were items of value and that whoever was responsible broke out windows on the vehicles to get to the items.

One man at the auction was so aggravated with the thefts that he said, “This is ridiculous. You can’t even go to an auction anymore,” and offered the $10,000 reward, according to Barrera.

Anyone with information is asked to call Barrera at the sheriff’s office at 937-393-1421.
