Fairfield FFA attends Camp Muskingum

0

Eight Fairfield FFA members attended the fourth session FFA Camp Muskingum July 6-10. Four Highland County schools took two buses from Hillsboro, including Fairfield FFA, Mowrystown FFA, Hillsboro FFA and Lynchburg FFA. They traveled five hours to FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake.

Once they arrived they were assigned a dorm and bunk for their sleeping quarters. From then on the FFA members competed in many events. Some of the more competitive events were shotgun shooting, rifle shooting, basketball, softball, tetherball, cornhole, horseshoes, sand volleyball, and public speaking. Other less competitive activates were leadership workshops, high ropes course, timber cruise, and a logging adventure.

The camp sets right on Leesville Lake so some water activities were fishing, motor boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming. The early birds that could wake up earlier than the rest could do two activities including a polar bear plunge and a morning run. There is usually paintball at the camp, but this year they were doing timber management for the camp and the logging landing was in the middle of the paintball field. So in place of paintball they had a logging adventure to go up to the landing pad and see how logging is done.

All the campers had a fun and exiting week by meeting new people and making new friends along with spending the week with a national officer. The camp director said that this was the first time that there has ever been a national officer stay at the camp for a full week. The week was ended with an awards ceremony congratulating the campers for their effort during the week.
