The inaugural Poker Run to Benefit the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at the Hillsboro Eagles.

Sign-in is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hillsboro Eagles Aerie 1161, located at 126 Gov. Trimble Place, and the ride will start at noon. It will go from the Hillsboro Eagles to Georgetown, to Maysville, Ky., to Russellville and then back to the Hillsboro Eagles.

The run is being held by the Hillsboro Eagle Riders.

After the run there will be 50/50 drawings, an auction, raffles and live music provided by Private Issue. Food will be available through the Eagles’ kitchen.

The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple.

In past years the Hillsboro Eagle Riders held a ride that benefited the Wounded Warrior Project. David Brown, one of the event organizers, said that last year the Eagles donated approximately $3,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project through the run. But he said that with all the controversy surrounding the Wounded Warrior Project, they decided this year to raise funds for another veterans organization.

Brown said he’s working to see if the funds the run raises can be channeled to local DAV members.
