Several activities being held during the first part of September are important to the growth of the Hillsboro Christian Academy (HCA), the local chartered non-public school at 849 S. High St. (Dunlap Road).

ANNUAL MUMS SALE – On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11, the HCA will hold its annual mum sale at its new location. Sale hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.

DONATION DINNER – A fish fry on Sunday, Sept. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. will be held at the new location in the gymnasium. Suggested donation price is $5, with the money benefitting the financial assistance program of the school. Also on the menu are chicken, a vegetable, salad, dessert, and a beverage.

OPEN HOUSE – Sunday, Sept. 18 from noon to 4 p.m.

Food will be available, visitors can walk through classrooms, and a parents meeting at 3 p.m. in gym.

The Hillsboro Christian Academy services grades K – 12. According to the Ohio Department of Education, a chartered, non-public school meets standards required by the state to hold a valid charter which gives the school the authority to issue valid graduation diplomas which are recognized by colleges. The school receives very little public funding which cannot be used for operational expenses. The HCA is not a charter school, which is a public school which normally focuses on the arts and sciences and is funded by the public, certain foundations, and tax dollars. The HCA relies on tuition from parents, donations from individuals, and a financial assistance program, which is made available to parents who can’t afford all of the tuition.

The HCA also qualifies as a provider for the state EdChoice Scholarship voucher. This is an income-based program which will be available next year for children in grades K-4. The first window to apply for this scholarship is during the month of February.

The public is invited to come see the school building progress, meet the teachers, plus indulge in culinary delights and help the school as well.

For additional questions and help with enrollment, leave a message at 937-393-8422 or stop by the school on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
