The McClain varsity wrestling team had six wrestlers invited to compete in the preseason Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association All Star Preview on Saturday night. Teams from southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky competed at Princeton High School.

Leading the way for the Tigers was freshman 220 pounder Kade Rawlins. Kade got the invite for placing in the junior high state tournament last year. Kade wrestled two matches on the night and came through in a big way with two pins.

In his first match he pinned Bradley Lewis of Bethel-Tate in the third period. Lewis was a district qualifier last year. In his second match, he pinned Gavin Barnhart of Williamsburg in the second period.

Also getting a win on the night was sophomore 132 pounder Quinton Smith. Quinton is a returning district qualifier. He pinned Ezra Wallace of Williamsburg in the third period.

Sophomore Dawson Jansen (120) lost a decision to Omar Cruz-Rios of Princeton. Dawson won 32 matches last year to get his invite.

Keegan Rawlins (145) lost a 3-2 decision to Jason Truxall of Middletown. Keegan is a three time district qualifier.

Sophomore Phil Waters (170) lost a 5-2 decision to Colton Quantz of Lebanon. Phil got his invite for winning 30 matches as a freshman.

Junior Ethan Taylor (195) lost a 6-1 decision to Adam Goldfuss of Cincinnati Oak Hills. Ethan was a district qualifier last year.

The Tigers will continue their preseason on the day before Thanksgiving. They will travel to Jackson and compete in a four team scrimmage.

Shane Paul is the head wrestling coach for McClain High School.
