Mowrystown Memorial Day

Mowrystown Memorial Day services will begin with a parade starting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 28 at Whiteoak High School followed by a service at 2 p.m. at the Mowrystown Cemetery.

Soup’s On Free Meal

The Soup’s On Free Meal will be held Saturday, May 26 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets in Hillsboro. Prayer and praise are at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be taco salad, applesauce, assorted drinks and desserts.

Whiteoak Alumni Banquet

All graduates of Whiteoak High School are invited to the Whiteoak Alumni Banquet on May 26 at the high school. Social hour is 6-7 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. There will be a live band, door prizes and time to visit with past classmates. Dinner reservations are $17 per person. Hillsboro Memorial Day

Hillsboro Memorial Day services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 28 at the Highland County Veterans Memorial on the lawn of the Highland County Courthouse.

Pricetown Memorial Day

The annual Memorial Day activities at the Pricetown Church of Christ will be held Monday, May 28 in Pricetown. The march to the cemetery will begin at 10 a.m. Marty Bailey will be the honored veteran at the cemetery service. The main program will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature traditional Memorial Day music, the presentation of honor quilts to veterans, and the keynote speech by Greenfield resident Otis Wagner. A community fellowship dinner will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Pricetown Church of Christ and is free to everyone.

Sinking Spring Memorial Day

A Memorial Day celebration will be held at the Sinking Spring Community Church on Monday, May 28. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Veterans eat free. The Memorial Day service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church.

Bainbridge Memorial Day

The village of Bainbridge and American Legion Post 14 will present an Olde Time Memorial Day Parade at 1:45 p.m. Monday, May 28. Parade lineup starts at 1:30 p.m. on the corner of Maple and Third streets. There will be a ceremony in the Bainbridge Cemetery starting at 2 p.m.

South Salem Memorial Day

South Salem Memorial Day services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 28. The guest speaker will be Ken Kensinger. Parade lineup will be at 1:45 p.m. behind Buckskin Elementary School. The annual South Salem United Methodist Church Strawberry Social will be held following the parade. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Democratic organizational meeting

The Highland County Democratic Executive/Central Committee will reorganize for the next four years during a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 at the Highland County Administration Building in the basement meeting room.

Lynchburg Historical Society

The Lynchburg Historical Society, 151 S. Main St., will hold a bake sale and sale of miscellaneous items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 1-2.

Highland Community Yard Sale

The Village of Highland Community Yard Sale will be held June 1-3 beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

St. Mary’s Rummage Sale

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, North High Street in Hillsboro, will hold a rummage sale starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2.

Senior Center BBQ Bingo

BBQ Bingo, with fresh slabs of ribs awarded to the winners, will be held Saturday, June 2 at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center. Doors open at noon with lunch, homemade noodles, BBQ sandwiches and snacks available for purchase. Bingo is 1-4 p.m. Cards are 25 cents each per game. You must be 18 or older to play. Special Fairfield meeting

The Fairfield Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, June for the purpose of discussing and potentially acting on employment matters, meal prices, security matters and other matters in the District Office Conference Room. The public is invited.

Sinking Spring Alumni Dinner

The annual Sinking Spring Alumni Dinner will be held Saturday, June 9 at the Sinking Spring Community Center (former school gymnasium). The social hour is 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet served at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per person and reservations can be sent to: Nina Couser, 2479 SR 41, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133; or Sinking Spring Alumni Association, P.O. Fruitdale UMC fundraiser

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church is having a flea market fundraiser for its new addition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 9, rain or shine, in the church parking lot. Space is available while it lasts for $20. For a 10-foot by 1o-foot space, call 740-626-2397 and leave your name and number. From 8 a.m. to noon breakfast will be served, then from noon to 5 p.m. there will be fish fry. There will be a bake sale inside the new addition.

Build-A-Buddy Factory

A Build-A-Buddy Stuffed Animal Factory will be available Saturday, June 9 at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center in Hillsboro. Creation stations include stuffing, heart, vaccinations and more. Family Fun & Movie Night

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present an outdoor Family Fun & Movie Night on Friday, June 1 featuring “Despicable Me.” Activities will begin at 8 p.m. on the grounds of LUMC, 117 Church St., Leesburg. The movie begins at sunset. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, cookies and a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro. The next movie night will be on Friday, Aug. 3, featuring “Cars 3.” Activities will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the movie at sunset. The rain date is Friday, Aug. 10.

Bright Local Board of Ed

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting at noon Monday, June 1. The board will be going into executive session to discuss the evaluations of the superintendent and treasurer. After the executive session the board will hold a work session to review district policies and handbooks. The board will also address any other business that comes before it at that time. The meeting will be held in the Whiteoak Jr/Sr High library. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Bright Local Board of Education is Monday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at Whiteoak Jr/Sr School.

New Hope fifth anniversary

Pastor Tyrone and Sister Lawes will celebrate their fifth anniversary of ministry at New Hope Baptist Church Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker at the 11 a.m. morning worship will be the Rev. Matthew Carter from Mt. Period Baptist Church in Columbus. A 4 p.m. afternoon service will feature the Rev. Vincent Golden and the congregation from the Unity Baptist Church in Columbus. Everyone is welcome.

Banana Split Club for Kids

The Hope House Christian Counseling Center will offer a Banana Split Club For Kids where they will will learn how to deal with separation/divorce/new home, make two places your “home,” and deal with guilt or anger from 10-11 a.m. on the following Fridays: June 8, June 15, June 22 and June 29. HHS class of 1978 reunion

The Hillsboro High School class of 1978 is organizing its 40-year class reunion planned for June 16 at 6 p.m. at the Ponderosa Banquet Center in Hillsboro. Lynchburg Lions breakfast

The Lynchburg Lions Club will hold a community breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the Lynchburg fire house. There will be door prizes and other activities in addition to the regular menu.
