Hillsboro’s Jamieson 6th in D I State tournament

COLUMBUS — Kristin Jamieson capped off her high school golf career on Saturday when she finished her second round at the OHSAA Division I girls golf state tournament with a score of 72 which combined with her Friday score of 74 gave her a total 36 hole score of six over par 146 and earned Jamieson sixth place in the D I tournament.

2018 marks the third consecutive year that Jamieson has qualified for and competed in the D I girls state golf tournament and she has finishes of 34th and 26th respectively in 2016 and 2017.

It was apparent early on Friday, Jamieson’s first at the tournament, that she had improved since her last trip to Columbus a year ago when she shot an 18 over par 158.

Jamieson was consistently better than her playing partners off the tee on Friday as she routinely out drove her opponents and was able to reach many of the greens in two shots or less.

Kristin was not as sharp once she reached the green however and saw her score climb as she struggled to convert.

Jamieson was able to correct some of Friday’s mistakes on Saturday, the final day of the event, and she shaved two strokes off of her score to move up from tenth place after Friday’s round to sixth in the final standings.

Jamieson, who signed to play golf at Ohio State University after the 2017 state tournament, had a great regular season as she led the Hillsboro Indians boys golf team to the Frontier Athletic Conference championship and earned Golfer of the Year honors in the league.

Some of the immense improvement shown by Kristin at the state level this season can likely be attributed to having played with the boys, and shot from their tees, during the regular season.

Jamieson, in order to compete during the 2018 season, was forced to play on the boys’ team because of lack of participation in the girls golf program at Hillsboro this year.
