Authorities are offering few details from an incident that allegedly left a women with gunshots wounds after she refused to surrender to officers Wednesday near Seaman.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened on Greenbrier Road around 3:30 p.m.

According to a witness who spoke with WKRC-TV, a woman emerged from a residence in the 1500 block of Greenbrier Road in Adams County’s Scott Township and began firing off rounds in a front yard.

Reports said she later changed her clothes in the front yard before law enforcement arrived on the scene.

Police cordoned off the area and ordered the woman to surrender and lay down her weapon, but when she refused, the witness said that police shot at the woman. The witness said that once woman was on the ground she raised her gun again and the witness heard another gunshot, but couldn’t be sure whether the gunshot came from the woman or law enforcement officers, according to WKRC-TV.

The woman was later flown to a hospital by helicopter after police had her subdued, WKRC reported.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the case had been turned over to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Steve Irwin, a spokesman for BCI, told The Times-Gazette that BCI officers were requested to assist at the scene around 4 p.m. Wednesday. He said the officers that originally arrived on the scene were not injured, and that BCI had processed the crime scene.

“We’re not releasing any information on the suspects in the case,” Irwin said.

He said he believed there was just one suspect, but said he could not comment on the suspect’s condition.
