Garden club holds October meeting

The Hillsboro Garden Club met Oct. 25 at the Kathryn Zane Granger Floral Hall on the Highland County fairgrounds. After president Judith Stivender called the meeting to order, all present stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and then sang “God Bless America” led by Ed Davis.

CORSA celebrates 35th anniversary

CORSA is currently celebrating its 35th anniversary and attended Wednesday morning’s meeting to congratulate Highland County on 20 years with the organization. Ali Redmond, membership services manager with CORSA, said Highland County is doing an “amazing job” but might see a bit of a rate increase next year on the reinsurance side. Hillsboro food science team third at district

Hillsboro FFA Chapter members traveled to Talawanda High School recently to compete in District 9 Food Science competition. The team placed third in the district out of 12 teams. The Hillsboro FFA Food Science team spent a couple weeks practicing during lunch and after school to prepare for the contest. The Food Science Career Development Event consists of an online objective test. The contest included math problems, customer complaint letters, and safety and sanitation situations. Participants also use their sensory skills and taste testing evaluation. The team practiced smelling different aromas and evaluating the difference between them. The contest’s purpose is to encourage learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry, and to develop understanding of food product development, food presentation and food safety issues. 2023 agriculture outlook program review

Highland County OSU Extension and Southern State Community College partnered together to host the 2023 Agricultural Outlook: Planted with a Purpose program at the Southern State Community College’s campus in Hillsboro on Feb. 3. Extension also partnered with the staff from the local Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the USDA agencies of Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Rural Development (RD) and Farm Service Agency (FSA).

BRYAN – AIM Media Midwest, LLC announced it has acquired the publishing assets of Bryan Publishing Company and Napoleon, Inc. serving the communities of Bryan and Napoleon located in northwest Ohio.
