The 70-degree weather in Ohio this week had me eager for days at Great American Ball Park. The child in me wanted to grab my Rawlings black glove and toss baseball with my father like old times.

Members of the 2022-23 Lynchburg-Clay Marching Mustangs are pictured. They recently earned the highest possible rating at the 2022 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Marching Band Finals held at Alexander Stadium in Piqua. This marked back-to-back state finals in consecutive school years for the Marching Mustangs, with the OMEA giving them a Superior (I) rating for this year’s performance, “Under the Moonlight.”

The Hillsboro Lady Indian wrestlers made history Sunday by becoming the first ladies wrestling team from Hillsboro to enter an Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) sanctioned all girls wrestling tournament.

As we all know, the Bengals season sadly ended two weeks ago, and like many of you I still haven’t gotten over this one either. While the Super Bowl is on this weekend, this is probably the first time in my life that I truly don’t feel like even watching. I know that I will tune in come Sunday night, but I am definitely still bitter from a poor Bengals performance in the AFC Championship game as Cincinnati, in my eyes, was truly the best team in football this year.

The Hillsboro High School boys bowling team finished eighth last weekend at the 2023 Division I OHSAA State Bowling Tournament held at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

You only get one chance to win your first game as a varsity head coach and that feat was accomplished Tuesday by Quentin Williams.

This has been quite the year for the sophomore from Whiteoak sophomore Landen Eyre, who finished a stellar season Saturday at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships with a fifth place finish in Division III.

The Miami Trace Panthers welcomed Frontier Athletic Conference rival Hillsboro on a mild, rainy Tuesday night in Fayette County. Hillsboro took an early 5-4 lead, but was outscored 46-24 the rest of the way as the Panthers rolled to a 50-29 victory.

The bye week was much needed this week for the Bengals roster, as this team needs some time off time to get healthy and time to prepare for the second part of the season. The bye week also has given me time to discuss football with the father of our star-studded wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase. Jimmy Chase Sr. kindly joined Matt’s Take this week and who else would be better to discuss football with than the father of the best receiver in the world?
