As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9’s Planning & Engineering Department, the district’s environmental office is seeking public input on a roadway improvement project in the city of Hillsboro in Highland County.

It is proposed to improve 0.33 miles of Harry Sauner Road in Hillsboro with the addition of curbs, gutter and sidewalks. The project also includes improving the drainage, traffic control and driveway access along the roadway. The project will require approximately 0.52 acres of permanent right of way, as well as approximately 0.732 acres of temporary right of way; however, no homes or businesses will be removed as a result of the project.

The project is anticipated to be awarded in late 2017, and closure of the route during construction may be needed to complete the project. Additional information, including a complete description, maps and plans sheets, is available online at www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D09/Pages/Public-Involvement-Process.aspx.

Issues the public may wish to comment on include the effect on local residents, air quality, the local economy, and historic or cultural resources. Written comments should be submitted by Sept. 20, 2016, or the deadline date that is posted on the web site, to: Greg Manson, ODOT District 9 environmental supervisor, P.O. Box 467; 650 Eastern Ave., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601; or email [email protected]

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.

Submitted by Kathleen Fuller, ODOT public information officer.
