A local author will be signing copies of her first book at the Hillsboro library next week.
Hillsboro resident Gretchen Huffman’s book “On the Inside, Looking Out” is a collection of poetry. The book signing is set for Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
Huffman described her book as “my thoughts going out to the reader,” hence the title, “On the Inside, Looking Out.”
According to the book’s description: “These poems were written not only for women but for all people who have experienced love, pain, longing, joy, loneliness, embarrassment and all the other emotions known to mankind.”
Huffman said that her friends were her inspiration to get published.
She added, “I just wanted to share my feelings and maybe reach people who didn’t know the love of words and rhyming.”
She also said that she is in the process of compiling a second book of poetry.
Huffman said that she published her first poem in the children’s magazine “Wee Wisdom” when she was 5 years old. She graduated as valedictorian from her high school class in New Vienna. Huffman later received an Associate of Arts degree from Southern State Community College, where she graduated summa cum laude. Huffman said that she did not go on to get her bachelor’s degree because she “already had the the ideal job for (her).” She worked as the director of public relations at Southern State.
Huffman’s book can be found on Amazon. For more information about other upcoming events in Hillsboro or other branches of the Highland County District Library, visit www.highlandco.org or search “Highland County District Library of Ohio” on Facebook.
