Some Highland County students will be getting new shoes, thanks to local employees of South Central Power Company.

Employees of the Hillsboro division recently gave a donation of $1,000 to Soles for Students, according to a press release from South Central. The check was accepted by Susan Davis, founder of Soles for Students.

Started in 2012, Soles for Students makes it possible for students in schools throughout the county to purchase shoes. In accepting the donation, Davis told the South Central Power employees that more than $11,000 will be spent on shoes in 2016.

“South Central Power and electric cooperatives across the country operate on a set of principles that includes care for the communities we serve,” said South Central Power’s Community Development Director Liz Bainter. “This support by our employees in Hillsboro is a great example of that.”

South Central Power’s local office is located on Danville Pike in Hillsboro. The electric cooperative serves more than 115,000 homes, farms and businesses in 24 Ohio counties including nearly 8,800 locations in Highland County.
