Whiteoak High School Alumni

The Whiteoak High School Alumni 101st anniversary will be held Sunday, May 27 at the high school. The cost is $15 per person. Social hour is from 6-7 p.m. followed by the event. For reservations, RSVP to Whiteoak Alumni Association, P.O. Box 85, Mowrystown, Ohio 45155.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, May 27 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be sloppy joe’s on a bun, green beans, chips, cake and ice cream.

Pricetown Memorial Day

The annual Memorial Day activities at the Pricetown Church of Christ will be held Monday, May 29 with a march to the cemetery beginning at 10 a.m. Peter Fields will be the honored veteran at the service in the cemetery. The main program at the church will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature the traditional Memorial Day music, the presentation of Honor Quilts to veterans, and the keynote speech from Gary Smaltz. He is a retired ES master sergeant having served 31 years in the Army Reserve. The community fellowship dinner will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. The dinner is sponsored by the Pricetown Church of Christ and is free to everyone. The public is invited to all the events.

Sinking Spring Memorial Day

Memorial Day services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 29 at the Sinking Spring Community Church. The Women in Ministry will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The menu will include hot dogs, coneys, BBQ, cole slaw, baked beans, chips, brownies and cookies and pop and water. A freewill donation will be accepted. All veterans eat for free.

South Salem Strawberry Social

The annual South Salem United Methodist Church Strawberry Social will be held starting at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, at the church. All the food will be homemade. Donations will be accepted.

Bainbridge Memorial Day Parade

The village of Bainbridge will have a Memorial Day parade at 2 p.m. Monday, May 29. Children are invited to decorate the bicycle or any other legal mode of transportation and take part. All kids who take part will received a prize. Lineup is at 1:30 p.m. on Maple Street near Main Street.

Buford Memorial Day

The Buford Cemetery will once again be the site of veterans being honored on Memorial Day, May 29 at 11 a.m. If you would like to participate in the parade be at the old Buford School at 10:45 a.m. This year’s guest speaker will be Alex Butler.

Highland Yard Sale

The village of Highland will hold a Community Yard Sale daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 2-4.

Senior Center BBQ Bingo

BBQ Bingo at Highland County Senior Citizens Center is Saturday, June 3 from noon to about 4 p.m. Games are 25 cents per card, per game. Must be 18-plus to play. Prizes are ribs, steaks and more. Proceeds benefit senior center. For information call 393-4745.

Charlie’s Angels flea market

The Charlie’s Angels Relay for Life team will hold a flea market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Highland Computer Forms, 1025 W. Main St., Hillsboro. The cost to reserve a site is $25 and the deadline is May 26. For more information call Kris Jarjapka at 937-403-6855.

Catholic Rural Life

On Thursday evening, June 8, Sister Chris Pratt, longtime rural life professional and former board member of National Catholic Rural Life, will speak about “The Vocation of Agriculture, to Till and Keep God’s Creation.” She will reflect on a document of the same name recently issued worldwide by the International Catholic Rural Association. Her presentation will be in conjunction with the regular meeting of Catholic Rural Life of the St. Martin Deanery. Also on the agenda will be advocating that Christian values be considered in the debates about the 2018 Farm Bill which are already starting in Congress. The meeting is open to anyone interested in bringing a Christian perspective to life in rural areas. Greenfield Yard Sale

The Greenfield Communitywide Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 9-10. Items for sale can be listed on Facebook at 2017 Greenfield Communitywide Yard Sale or can be emailed to G3 at [email protected].

Sinking Spring Alumni Dinner

The annual Sinking Spring Alumni Dinner will be held Saturday, June 10 at the Sinking Spring Community Center (former school gym). All graduates, attending students, faculty and friends are invited. Social hour is from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the meal is $12 and reservations should be sent to: Nina Couser, 2479 SR 41, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133; or Sinking Spring Alumni Association, P.O. Fruitdale flea market

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church is having a flea market from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10. The UMW ladies will be serving breakfast from 8-11 a.m. then from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. they will have a fish fry. If you would like to rent a 10 feet by 10 feet space the fee is $20 (call 740-626-2397). This is a fundraiser for the addition to the back of the church. It will be rain or shine. Bring your own tables.

Bright special board meeting

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 12 at Whiteoak High School.

Buckskin Alumni Banquet

The 101st annual Buckskin High School Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, June 17 at the Buckskin School in South Salem. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. All graduates and attendees of Buckskin School are invited. Benefit for Kellin Crowe

A benefit motorcycle ride and dinner/auction will be held June 17 for Kellin Crowe at the Nazarene Church on SR 28 in Blanchester. The rides starts at 10:30 a.m. with registration starting an hour before that. The ride ends at Putnam Elementary where the dinner/auction will begin at noon. The cost is $15 ($20 for couples) for the ride and dinner of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and dessert. The cost for the dinner only is $6 for adults, $2 for children under 12 and children under 3 are free.

AAUW scholarship applications

The American Association of University Women is accepting applications for educational scholarships for 2017. Eligibility requirements are: Must be a current resident of Highland County area, must 21 years old by July 1, 2017, must be attending an accredited college or university and give evidence of being enrolled in a degree program. Applications can be obtained from the libraries in Hillsboro, Lynchburg, Greenfield and Leesburg and at Southern State Community College. The deadline for submitting an application is July 1, 2017.
